Master Mechanic - Transportation Services

Hours: Full-Time, Hourly
Pay: $22.68 - $28.81

Job Summary:  Perform all mechanical needs as it applies to maintaining university equipment and vehicles.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and repair university vehicles and equipment
  • Provide and maintain personal tools to complete mechanical repairs
  • Assist maintenance technicians and student workers
  • Ability to learn computer repair programs and process paperwork
  • Maintain a clean work area
  • Perform DOT safety inspections n university buses
  • Drive bus if needed for off campus repairs

Special Requirements:  An expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, a SDA church member in good and regular standing.

Employee must have the desire to grow with Transportation Services and the University.
May be necessary to come in after hours to prep vehicles and check-out for use. In this position it may be necessary to go out of town, for bus trips or training purposes.

Qualifications:  
  • Must have mechanical experience in all areas
  •  Class A Commercial Driver’s License, and uphold a personal medical card*

Education:  ASE certified or Master Technician certificate recommended.

Experience:  A minimum of five years’ experience demonstrating the ability to diagnose and to repair large and small diesel engines, tractors and small gas engines, computer controlled late model cars is essential. Supervisory experience and the ability to handle multiple demands is required. 

Typical Physical Demands: Requires lifting, pulling, working on knees, standing, bending, and reaching. May require lifting up to 100 pounds, and requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard trade tools. Position requires normal range of hearing and vision.

Working Conditions: Willing to work in hot or cold environment. Area can become dusty with low fumes.
Skills and Aptitudes: Interpersonal relationship skills essential with ability to work with other employees in a team spirit, the ability to interact appropriately with personnel (faculty and students) on job sites as required.

*Ability to obtain Class A Commercial License within 6 months of employment.
