Job Summary: The School of Music at Southern Adventist University is seeking applicants for a faculty position as Director of Choral Studies. The successful applicant will be equipped to provide effective leadership of the School of Music’s choirs, continuing the choral program’s long-standing artistic excellence in performance—serving the campus, community, and denomination. This faculty member will be an integral part of a cohesive faculty team, supporting and contributing to the mission, goals, and strategic objectives of the School of Music.
Primary duties:
- Coordinate and oversee the School of Music choral program, including conducting choirs, interfacing with colleagues in collaborative programming, touring, and recruiting choir members.
- Teach advanced choral conducting course.
- Coordinate and oversee weekly Evensong programs.
Additional duties to be chosen from:
- Coordinating and/or teaching coursework in Bachelor of Science in Music: Worship Studies curricular program.
- Teaching applied voice.
- Other needed areas of strength, including potential for administration.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in choral music required, doctorate or equivalent professional experience preferred.
Special Requirements: Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ and the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and be an SDA church member in good and regular standing.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 30 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, calculators, telephone and other office equipment.
Working Conditions: Essential tasks are performed under normal office/school conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lighted and ventilated.
