Teaching Faculty - Chemistry Department

Description:  The Chemistry Department seeks a full-time faculty member with expertise in chemistry effective June 1, 2025 with teaching responsibilities to commence at the beginning of the fall semester in late August. Teaching responsibilities will include chemistry courses for non-majors, chemistry for nursing and allied health majors, and lower division general and/or organic chemistry labs. Additional course responsibilities may be assigned depending on the qualifications and interests of the successful candidate and the needs of the department. An ability and willingness to contribute to the growth of the department’s undergraduate research program by engaging students in lines of research that complement the research interests of the current faculty is desirable.

Essential Duties:
  • Develop and teach undergraduate courses in chemistry in collaboration with fellow faculty members
  • Provide effective academic advising for chemistry majors
  • Assist with extracurricular departmental activities and student recruiting
  • Work collegially with fellow faculty members and students to promote a nurturing learning environment for students from a broad range of cultures and ethnicities
  • Serve on departmental and university committees
Qualifications: A doctoral degree in chemistry is required, with a strong academic background in chemistry, a demonstrated knowledge of best practices for teaching chemistry at the undergraduate level, a desire to implement and build on these best practices, and a commitment to teaching from a Biblical foundation. Candidates should have strong oral and written communication skills.

Special Requirements: An expressed commitment to Jesus Christ and the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church; be a SDA church member in good and regular standing.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, calculators, telephone and other office equipment, as well as laboratory equipment and instruments.

Working Conditions: Essential tasks are performed under normal office/classroom/laboratory conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lighted and ventilated.
