Job Description: The Applied Technology program is seeking a full-time employee in the area of automotive technology. The ideal candidate will be proficient in working in a productive automotive shop and developing and teaching undergraduate automotive technology courses, including both lecture and laboratory components. In addition, the successful candidate will be committed to mentoring students, nurturing student learning both in and out of the classroom, and discipling students in Jesus Christ.
Duties:
- Provides automotive diagnostic and repair services in the department’s automotive repair business (approximately half-time technician).
- Develop and teach general and specialized undergraduate automotive technology courses within the applicant’s areas of qualification. Average load of 6 credit hours / term.
- Appropriately integrate Christian faith and biblical principles as reflected in Seventh-day Adventist beliefs in course content and by personal interactions with students and colleagues.
- Maintain assigned automotive laboratories, safety protocols and relevant training programs for equipment use.
- Support students’ use of laboratory equipment for course projects.
- Collaborate with the department’s automotive repair business to incorporate customer work into class laboratories as appropriate. Ensure quality assurance of customer work through technical assistance, inspections, and project completion when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Special Requirements: Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ and the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, be an SDA church member in good and regular standing, and desire to serve.
Qualifications: Must be a Master ASE Certified technician with advanced level certification preferred. Bachelor’s degree in related discipline preferred. Prior higher education teaching experience and/or relevant industry experience preferred. Be able to write and speak English fluently.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to perform automotive repair in a shop environment.
Working Conditions: Essential tasks are performed under normal university conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lighted and ventilated.
