Sandwich and Bakery Associate (Part-Time) - Village Market

Hours: Part-Time, Hourly
Pay: $18.10 - $24.42

Job Function:
The Sandwich & Bakery Associate is to help make quality sandwiches and bakery items and meet their pars set by Deli management on a daily basis. To help student employees with sandwich and bakery procedures according to policies set by management. To clean and sanitize workstation area, tools and utensils on a daily basis, and always follow all TN Department of Agriculture food safety policies. If main department’s expected duties are complete, they may be asked to assist in other areas as needed including, but not limited to prep, inventory and housekeeping.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

General
  • Maintain a Christian and positive work atmosphere by precept and example;
  • Notify Deli management of situations or problems, or suggestions that could improve logistics;
  • Understand and practice the best and proper methods of quality production for each menu item;
  • Maintain the highest of standards in all food production which include, but are not limited to:
    • Strive for the highest quality of product
    • Follow food service health and safety practices outlined by the TN Department of Agriculture
  • Follow Par List for new sandwich production set by Deli management;
  • Assist with preparing all food ingredients needed for production of each type of sandwich;
  • Properly package sandwiches and bakery items;
  • Merchandise and rotate all sandwich and bakery items on display coolers and shelves;
  • Assist with relaying departmental orders to Deli management for vendors;
  • Be conscious of next-day’s tasks and prep accordingly;
  • Perform daily department-related cleaning tasks, as well as uncommon tasks during slow times;
  • Perform all other reasonably business-related functions as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
  • A high school degree, or GED equivalent is required, college degree preferred;
  • Food service experience is strongly preferred, but will train the right candidate.

Language Skills:
  • Ability to speak, read, write, interpret and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency.

Other Skills or Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate effectively;
  • Be a self-starter who displays speed, accuracy, neatness, cleanliness, and organizational skills and has the ability to motivate others to do the same;
  • Approachable, friendly, positive attitude, and able to work well as a team member.

Physical Requirements:
  • Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching;
  • May require lifting 50 pounds or more;
  • Requires manual dexterity sufficient to use food preparation utensils (knives, scoops, spreaders and spatulas etc.), operate food service equipment (food slicers, chopping bowls, mixers etc.), and an industrial dishwasher (will train as needed);
  • Requires normal range of motion, hearing, and vision.

Working Conditions
  • Most essential tasks are performed under normal office/food preparation conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort;
  • Work area is well-lit and ventilated;
  • Being able to access and work in cold and sub-frozen temperatures (walk-in coolers and freezers) in a limited timeframe is expected and required.

Special Requirement:
Must have a strongly expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and an SDA church member in good and regular standing.
