Mental Health Counselor - Student Support Services

Hours: Full-Time, Salary

Job Summary: Conducts individual and group counseling sessions in a caring, culturally accepting, and confidential environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides individual and group counseling for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Participates in rotation for on-call after-hours response and daily mental health emergency situations.
  • Works with the Counseling Services Coordinator to develop referral relationships with professionals on and off campus.
  • Working in consultation with the Counseling Services Coordinator, facilitates student referrals for psychiatric services.
  • As directed by the Counseling Services Coordinator, serves as an alternating member of the Student Success Team. 
  • Works with the Counseling Services Coordinator to organize and present preventative and developmental intervention programming.
  • Provides counseling support in crisis or traumatic situations.
  • Assists the Director of Student Support Services and the Vice-President for Student Development in the administration of student service programming.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Special Requirements: An expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and an SDA church member in good and regular standing.

Qualifications: A Master’s degree and licensure in counseling (LPC).  A minimum of three years of successful counseling-related experience. Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) is preferred but not required.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching. May require lifting 25-30 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.

Working Conditions:  Essential tasks are performed under normal office/school conditions with
little or no noticeable discomfort. The work area is lighted and ventilated.
