Teaching Faculty - Director of Wind Symphony

Job Summary: The School of Music at Southern Adventist University is seeking applicants for a faculty position as Director of the Wind Symphony. The successful applicant will be equipped to provide effective leadership of the Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble, continuing the ensembles’ long-standing artistic excellence in performance—serving the campus, community, and denomination. This faculty member will be an integral part of a cohesive faculty team, supporting and contributing to the mission, goals, and strategic objectives of the School of Music.

Primary duties:
  • Coordinate and oversee the Wind Symphony, including conducting concerts, interfacing with colleagues in collaborative programming, touring, and recruiting ensemble members. Provide oversight to the School of Music’s Jazz Ensemble, including conducting concerts, recruiting ensemble members, and imaging the School of Music and Southern Adventist University as and when available.
  • Co-teach advanced instrumental conducting course.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and repair of the School of Music’s wind and percussion instrument collections.
  • Coordinating and/or teaching coursework in music education.

Additional duties to be chosen from:
  • Other needed areas of strength, including potential for administration.
  • Teaching applied music per the candidate’s area of expertise.

Qualifications:
Master’s degree in music with demonstrated experience and success in wind conducting required, doctorate or equivalent professional experience preferred.

Special Requirements:
Must have a strongly expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and an SDA church member in good and regular standing.
