Cafeteria Floater

Job Summary: As a Cafeteria Floater, under the direct leadership of the Cafeteria Manager, the primary role is to work alongside other staff and student workers to serve the guests in the Cafeteria where needed. The Cafeteria Floater is expected to fulfill the primary and secondary job responsibilities, inquiring guidance from Cafeteria Manager or Foodservice directors when necessary. Preparation for the meal period will be in either the Cooks or Salad area, utilizing student helpers for preparation of food, cleaning, special orders, and any other relevant work-related tasks as necessary.
           
Duties and General Responsibilities:
  • Understands and completes the primary responsibilities of the position every shift, and completes secondary responsibilities as needed during daily operations
  • Is alert to student workers’ attendance and performance
  • Notifies the Cafeteria Manager of situations, problems or suggestions that would improve the program.
  • Understands and practices the best methods of quality preparation for each menu item and maintain the highest of standards in all food production
  • Understands, maintains, and practices good sanitation and cleaning procedures at all times.
    • Practices safe food handling
    • Keeps the kitchen as clean and neat as possible during the day
    • Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment - being prepared for Health Department at all times
  • Makes sure all food is put away properly after meal period
  • Cleans coolers, work area, and decks to maintain a sanitary work environment
  • Assists in the training of new workers
  • Takes their turn and leads out on Sabbath and weekend duty
  • Maintains a Christian atmosphere by precept and example
  • Performs all other reasonably business-related functions as assigned
Special Requirements: Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, an SDA church member in good and regular standing, and a desire to serve in a cooperative, spiritually redemptive, and soul-winning atmosphere. Practice confidentiality of information at all times.
 
Education and Experience:  A minimum of a high school diploma. College or trade school education preferred but not necessary. A minimum of 2 years experience in Food Service.
Qualifications:  Ability to communicate effectively. A self starter who displays neatness, cleanliness, and organizational skills and has the ability to motivate others to do the same. Approachable, friendly, positive attitude, able to encourage others. Able to have a good rapport with employees, especially students.

Skills and Aptitudes: Have a working knowledge of food service operations. Interpersonal relationship skills essential with ability to work with employees and students with a team spirit. Have safety-consciousness and promote within work force.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching. May require lifting up to 50 pounds. (If over 40 pounds please ask for help) Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate food service equipment such as food slicers, chopping bowls, mixers, etc. Requires normal range of motion, hearing, and vision.

Working Conditions: Essential tasks are performed under normal Food service conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lighted and ventilated.
