TRIO Director - Academic Administration

Position Summary:
Southern Adventist University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced TRIO Director to lead and manage our federally funded TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program. The Director will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, staff supervision, budget management, compliance, and reporting. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the academic success, persistence, and graduation of first-generation, low-income, and disabled college students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for the TRIO SSS program
  • Supervise, train, and support program staff
  • Manage and monitor program budgets and expenditures
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations and performance objectives
  • Oversee program development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Foster an inclusive environment supportive of students’ academic and personal growth
  • Submit required federal reports and maintain accurate documentation
  • Collaborate with campus departments to enhance student success
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • Master’s Degree required in Education, Counseling, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited university.
Work Experience:
  • Minimum of three (3) years in:
    • Staff supervision
    • Budget management
    • Program development and evaluation
    • Compliance and reporting with federal regulations
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with:
    • Federal TRIO programs
    • Academic support programs or comparable programs serving disadvantaged students
  • Demonstrated professional or personal experience overcoming barriers similar to those faced by program participants.
Additional Desired Experience and Training:
  • Proven experience in programming designed to:
    • Increase annual persistence rates of SSS-eligible students
    • Improve academic standing and success
    • Promote timely college graduation
  • Background in effective student coaching, particularly in:
    • Career advising and guided pathways
    • Financial literacy
    • Goal setting and time management
    • Self-advocacy and study skills development
  • Familiarity with federal grant management, including:
    • Budget oversight of federally funded programs
    • Understanding of federal regulations and uniform guidance
Special Requirements:  An expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, an SDA church member in regular standing.     

Typical Physical Demands:  Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, and telephone. Requires a normal range of hearing and vision.

Working Conditions:  Essential tasks are performed under standard office/school conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lighted and ventilated.

Hiring for this position is contingent on grant funding.
