Job Summary: The First Year Experience Assistant will be responsible for assisting the First Year Experience Coordinator in all aspects of the First Year Experience Program as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in planning and managing the New Student Orientation program.
- Beginning with early registration and prior to first-year matriculation, proactively contacts incoming freshmen and transfer students in order to assist in planning and registration for fall coursework and an appropriate SmartStart course.
- Assists in connecting all new students with their major advisor, and effectively transitioning students switching majors to their appropriate major advisors.
- Assists in managing academic advisement for incoming freshmen.
- Assists in the development and implementation of action and educational plans for all first-year students, intervening with appropriate support services when necessary.
- Encourages and facilitates relationships between freshmen and staff working in the various campus support programs.
- Provides supplemental advising to any freshmen who has been unable to make satisfactory connections with an advisor in their declared major.
- Assists in developing and implementing a process for tracking and reporting first year statistics and survey results.
- Performs additional responsibilities as requested to support office operations.
Special Requirements: An expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and an SDA church member in good and regular standing.
Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are required.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching. May require lifting up to 25-30 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
