Accounting Clerk - Accounting Services

Location: Accounting Services 

Hours: Full-time, hourly

Pay: $16.73 - $22.78/hr.
 

Job Summary: Assisting with general clerical duties involved to accomplish receptionist, general accounting, bookkeeping, and payables.

Essential Functions:

Performs any combination of the following duties, depending upon departmental assignment:

  • Receiving and directing phone calls
  • Opening and distributing incoming mail
  • Data entry of General Journal entries
  • Maintaining the OH batch
  • Following up on outstanding checks over 6-months
  • Maintaining the list of O/S checks payable to State of TN
  • Preparing IRS Forms 1098, 1099-R, 1098-C,
  • Keeping record of campus magazine subscriptions
  • Maintaining worship, birthday, and convocation schedules
  • DataTel entry as requested
  • General Office cleaning
  • Parsonage Allowance for ministers
  • Typing letters and minutes of meetings
  • Tracking payments for tuition assistance
  • Data entry for miscellaneous check books
  • Run GL, TB, FS as requested
  • Maintain reference book service/updates
  • Real property deeds, contracts, agreements for purchase/sales
  • Distribution of outside Invoices to departments for approval
  • Monthly utility distribution spreadsheet/journal entries
  • Backup for outside Invoice entry
  • Recording days off for office staff
  • Perform all other reasonably business-related functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic, office practices and procedures, and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain complex records and files and to prepare technical, legal, or statistical reports.
  • Ability to meet the public well and to deal effectively with their questions or problems.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and employees and officials in other departments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • May be required to type accurately at a speed of at least 45 wpm and/or to operate an adding machine by touch.
  • Practice confidentiality of information at all times.

Training and Experience:

  • High school graduation plus two (2) years' experience in accounting work. A bachelor's degree in accounting, secretarial or office administration, education, or a related field preferred; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements:  Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, a SDA church member in good and regular standing

Working Conditions:  Essential tasks are performed under normal office/school conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lighted and ventilated.

Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, the telephone and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
